It is not clear, meanwhile, whether Rohit will miss out on the subsequent three-match ODI series too.

As for the Gujarat batter Priyank Panchal, Rohit Sharma’s injury opens the door to make his case in a star studded Indian top-order. Priyank Panchal, who has scored over 7000 runs at an average of 45.52 with 24 centuries & 25 half-centuries to his name in 100 First-Class matches, was a part of the India A squad that played 3 unofficial Tests in Bloemfontein. He missed his 100 by only 4 runs in the 1st Test, while he returned with scores of 24 & 0 in the second Test before sitting out of the third.
The 1st Test will be played from December 26-30 in Centurion, followed by the 2nd in Johannesburg from Jan 3-7 and the 3rd & final one in Cape Town from Jan 11-15. The subsequent ODI series, which will not be a part of the ICC ODI World Cup Super League, will starts from January 19 in Paarl, which will also host the 2nd ODI on Jan 21 before the final one in Cape Town on Jan 23.
